luckily, I also have one of these:

    Music Recording

Cmsi has vast knowledge and too much experience in recording musicians in all sorts of set ups and environments , from live gigs recorded as natural recordings, through multi track produced cds to fully synthetic electronic music mixes from hard disc systems or sequencer control of instruments and samplers. Anything is possible, just give us the time or the money, or preferably both.

Tascam DA88:

The Cmsi mobile 16 track digital recording and production studio is based around 2 of these machines. Each one is full spec time code version and so they can operate independently in different parts of the world..... (yes you could lock them together as well, but you would need to experiment with the offsett!

here they are in the middle of a busy session in the production studio:

I have specialised in hard disc digital sound editing for serious broadcast clients since 1988 and have enough experience of the ever expanding range of systems available, to know that the most effective real productive and creative work is best done on a familiar well tried system which can be trusted to consistently do the job. This must be set up in a pleasant working environment and produce a deliverable end product.

Current Dubbing Suite set up:

Avid/Digidesign AudioVision version 4.10 with 16 channels of 888 DSP in/out racks and 24 track tracklaying on a 9600 Avid converted Mac.

also running pro Tools 5 on the same system using the same I/O and video playback engine.

OMF conversions using DigiTranslator.

SoundFile conversions using Soundhack.

Yamaha 02R 5.1 surround sound desk with digital I/O to record and playback 16 channels of Audiovision - enables real time 5.1 mixing and monitoring using all the internal dynamics, eq, automation, and effects of the desk.

Roland R880 studio digital reverb with 4 analogue and digital outputs.

Timeline machine, timecode, rs422/232, clock, control synchroniser.

Genelec 5.1 monitoring system.

USB, DVD support via networked pc system also running Avid, Soundforge, Noise reduction, CD Architect etc.

Panasonic video projector

Dvd player

18 Gbyte of on line sound effects, and a huge library of sound effects cds with descriptions searchable on a database.

This is a tried and tested system, and in my view is still the quickest and most creative way to tracklay and mix, as most changes can be heard in real time, and sound effects can be tried out very quickly.

I will however, work on any system at client's premises, where the workrate and flexibility is determined by the facilities provided, Obviously, Final Cut, and Soundtrack Pro are used heavily in community and mid range productions, and I can help to acheive good results using my experience of sound dubbing in film and television.

    Editing

Editing

Although best known for sound editing, I have always been an accomplished editor, and having a history in VTR & video effects means all the latest software based editing and effects sysems are just more creative tools. If you want my editing skills and pop video direction, I am only available for very special projects and people - can you afford to bribe me into editing anything less?

Here are 2 of my latest projects:

The Ridges - You are Nothing

My Exit Music - Sundays are for falling apart
