Fenlake Meadows Local Nature Reserve is located to the south of the river Great Ouse, opposite Priory Country Park, along the Sandy Road (A603) between the Oasis beach pool and the Barns Hotel. It is a series of six fields of semi-improved agricultural land (grazing pasture) that are slowly being allowed to return to
native sedge beds (a bit like reed beds). Two of the fields are almost completely sedge now and a further two have areas that turn into temporary pools when the water levels rise. These temporary pools are especially good for wading birds. The fields are bounded by drainage ditches and hedgerows, which are shown on the 1882 Ordnance Survey map.
Four of the fields are still grazed by cattle to try and retain the character and flowers that exist in this area, but as the sedge returns this land will eventually not be suitable for grazing. There is a circular path around the reserve, but it does get wet in places.
